SECOND SHOW EVER: A Recap

10th Annual Open Mic Night* - That’s right, we headlined an open mic.

We debuted the country song we wrote, because nothing’s more punk than making a country song that involves a “Cunty” banner. The audience shared what parts of their bodies hurt, and we let them put some Icy Hot on it. Everyone felt seen and heard. We spoke of goons and addressed the issue of bopping, because there’s nothing more punk than ending a song with a moral pun. What a naughty fucking bunny…

We tried to say Veggie Swears instead of Actual Swears to protect the ears of the innocent. And we handed out Veggie Swear worksheets, because nothing’s more punk than completing a worksheet at a concert (”Why don’t more bands have worksheets??” - Julie).

But, it turns out, we’re not great at not swearing. So we also had a Swear Jar that we filled with Actual Money every time we said an Actual Swear to atone for our sins. We turned this into a fundraiser (thank you to all of the audience members who donated!), and raised money for the Rose Park Elementary School Food Pantry, because there is truly nothing more punk than combining Actual Swears with Actual Support for the community we are all a part of. Go donate here if you can (click “CLC Pantry Support” in the “Designation” drop-down menu).

*This is was where Icy Hot got its name. This open mic, 1 year ago! We promised ourselves that we’d finally start that punk band we’d been joking about and play at least 1 song at this open mic (or was it 2? we don’t know, we can’t remember shit). Doesn’t matter, we did 3(!), ya chumps!

hello from the basement

We are Icy Hot. Five of us, one basement, some instruments we sorta know how to use.

  • Mae sings and screams and is feral.
  • Ang plays guitar and makes jokes with Mae.
  • Julie plays bass and brings up the style.
  • Teresa is the wizard.
  • The Drum Lord is on drums. That is the whole name. Do not ask.

This little page is our whole internet. Tap GET UPDATES at the bottom and your phone will buzz when we post.

first show recap

We played 4 songs. We said lots of ridiculous things. The ratio was approximately 70% giggling, 30% feminine rage when the thing was done.

We had fun. You had fun. We played approximately the right things. We promised 20 minutes and over-delivered with 30+ that included witty, and sometimes incomprehensible, stage banter. We introduced important topics like being bopped, what girls like us are… um… like, and of course, an entirely new genre: Perimenopause Punk. Complete with 40-something women feeling seen and understood (for maybe the first time ever) and educational moments where 20-somethings (and some male partners, if they were paying attention) were horrified to learn everything they could look forward to. And we danced.
